There is no nobler career than that of motherhood at its best.  There are no possibilities greater, and in no other sphere does failure bring more serious penalties.  With what diligence then should she prepare herself for such a task.  If the mechanic who is to work with “things” must study at technical school, if the doctor into whose skilled hands will be entrusted human lives, must go through medical school . . . how much more should the mother who is fashioning the souls of the men and women of tomorrow, learn at the highest of all schools and from the Master-Sculptor Himself, God.  To attempt this task, unprepared and untrained is tragic, and the results affect generations to come.  On the other hand there is no higher height to which humanity can attain than that occupied by a converted, heaven-inspired, praying mother.

I wanted to share with you what’s been inspiring me lately. There’s no depth to this today, just a desire to let you inside the creative world in my head. Ha!

Elisabeth Elliot is one of my favorite authors, speakers, mothers and women of faith. She became a missionary to the Auca people who killed her husband years before and ended up having a walk with Christ that has inspired people for decades. She was a no nonsense type of person which is refreshing in her talks and books.

I came across these pictures of her and her daughter, Valerie, recently which made me gasp. I didn’t think there was more I could admire about her but when I saw these pictures I knew I was wrong!

It is evident much of her days were spent with her daughter by her side helping her.  That is told in many of her books. She did not spend her days cocooning her daughter but training her up to serve others – even the very people who murdered her father. When I saw these pictures it bridged the images in my head from the stories I’ve read to the reality they lived in.

Family pictures like these are TREASURES. They are few and far between these days. I love how these pictures tell a raw story.

It is my aspiration to learn to do the same.

Kaylie
