While I tend to lean more casual in my approach to beach photos, I have always loved heirloom photos at the beach. I feel like the skit where someone says, “I have a complicated order!!” Ha! I am either suggesting my families be in swimsuits with a beautiful kaftan or heirloom dresses for photos. There is no middle ground in my book of family beach photos. Ha!
I remember coming to the beach as a kid during the Summer growing up. We would vacation anywhere from St. George Island on the Forgotten Coast with my whole family to Fort Walton Beach, Florida and everywhere in between. My mom would put us in beautiful, heirloom dresses then prance my sisters and I out to the beach where she whipped out her film camera and snapped a few photos. To this day, these are some of my favorite childhood photos of my sisters and I.
(I had to include the above image because it screams my parents took this and it was hot. Ha!)
I remember these photos hanging on the wall in our dining room growing up – in weathered, white frames to be exact. I actually wrote a blog post about these photos hanging in our dining room because just a few years ago my mom gave them to me. Because they had been hanging for so long, facing the sunlight and not printed on good paper, I had to restore them then reprint them for my girls to have one day. You can read about it here. Isn’t it crazy how we remember some things? Isn’t it even crazier how photos impact all of our moods without us even knowing it? Today, a few of those beach photos of my sisters and I hang on the walls of my home.
I want to share with you a few outfits that may give you ideas on what to wear if you are wanting heirloom beach photos.
